Thought Leader of the Week: Ed Campbell

VIDEO: Ed Campbell discusses his outlook on global growth in 2013.

'We’re beginning 2013 in a better place than we began 2012'

In spite of some pullbacks and volatility, 2012 turned out to be a rewarding year for investors, says Ed Campbell, portfolio manager for Quantitative Management Associates, who argues that economic data give reason to be “moderately upbeat” about 2013.

“Overall, we begin 2013 in a better place than we began 2012,” Campbell says. Global growth could be somewhat sluggish, but durable, Campbell notes, signs of economic healing as we gain greater distance from the financial crisis. U.S. housing is also clearly rebounding, after being a strong drag for several years, and growth is picking up in emerging Asia. And, Campbell adds, inflation is showing little sign of being a problem in 2013.
