Working Mother spotlights Prudential's commitment to advancement of multicultural women

Photo: Michelle Meyer ShippMichele Alcazar, vice president of Human Resources for Prudential's Global Business and Technology Solutions, never questioned whether she would continue her career after having children. She did, however, question how she would be able to do it all.
As a mother of two children under the age of 10, Alcazar eventually found work-life integration with a caregiver, a decision that allowed her to continue developing her career at Prudential. "I wouldn't have been able to have my career without a support network," said Alcazar, who is featured in Working Mother's Best Companies for Multicultural Women issue.
Alcazar's journey is just one of the many profiles highlighted in the June/July issue, where Prudential has been named one of the 2016 Best Companies for Multicultural Women. The annual list honors companies that are committed to recruiting, retaining and advancing women of color.
"Prudential has remained a champion of women of diverse backgrounds for years," says Chief Diversity Officer Michele Meyer-Shipp, who spoke with Yahoo! News recently about her own challenges as a woman of color in the workplace.
"Companies like Prudential lead the way in moving women to power positions, where they have the opportunity to thrive and innovate," she says. "My own experience speaks to the challenges multicultural women face and overcome, and I am proud to represent a corporation that supports the development and progression of diverse women professionals."
Launched in 2003, the Working Mother Best Companies for Multicultural Women list tracks corporations' progress in promoting women of color and evaluating their representation at every level of management and decision-making.
Earlier this year, Prudential was named a top 60 company for executive women by the National Association of Female Executives for the 16th consecutive year. The list recognizes companies for recruiting and hiring women, offering advancement programs and flexible schedules to make sure they keep moving up the ladder while pursuing personal interests, and supporting their efforts to reach executive positions.
