In response to recent natural disasters around the globe, The Prudential Foundation and Prudential employees have combined to commit up to $3.15 million to the American Red Cross and UNICEF disaster relief efforts worldwide.

“Prudential supports the heroic recovery and relief efforts underway here in the U.S. and globally,” says Lata Reddy, Senior Vice President, Diversity, Inclusion & Impact at Prudential. “Natural disasters can wreak havoc on the financial security of families and individuals, and Prudential and our employees stand ready to help those affected by these devastating incidences.”

The Prudential Foundation monitors events around the world to determine where aid is needed most. After the catastrophic flooding of Hurricane Harvey claimed the lives of at least 70 people and forced tens of thousands from their homes, the foundation pledged $500,000 to the American Red Cross to aid in the recovery of Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast, in addition to a $100,000 grant directed to the International Federation of Red Cross Societies for relief efforts corresponding to severe flooding in Sierra Leone and South Asia.

Since then, Hurricane Irma damaged 90% of homes in the Florida Keys, Puerto Rico is in dire need after the devastation of Hurricane Maria, and an 8.2 magnitude earthquake is the largest to have hit Mexico in over a century. The Foundation has increased its relief grants to a total of $2.7 million, which includes $2.1 million for the Red Cross, including $1 million to support relief efforts in Puerto Rico, $100,000 to the Mexican Red Cross for relief efforts in Mexico City and $500,000 for UNICEF.

Through the end of October, The Prudential Foundation will match employee donations made through internal Prudential CARES giving campaigns to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and UNICEF USA dollar for dollar, up to $450,000. If the matching gift campaigns reach their max, the total contribution from Prudential and its employees will equal $3.15 million.
