“Do you really want to go back to diapers and bottles?”

That was just one of the questions Jeanine Pedoto, vice president, Supply Chain Sustainability, Global Enterprise Services, fielded when she told people she was pregnant at age 45.

This surprise pregnancy, as she calls it, wasn’t part of the plan for Pedoto and her husband, who already have two teenagers, including one about to go off to college. But they quickly came to see it as a stroke of good fortune.

“The year prior, I had lost my father suddenly,” Pedoto explains in the video above. “I realized this baby was going to be one of the biggest blessings in my life. It really felt like he was sent from my dad.”

She credits the women’s affinity group at Prudential —now known as the Women Empowered business resource group, of which she is a board member — with giving her the “village” she needed through a tumultuous time.

In 2017, when that baby was 2 years old, life took another twist. Pedoto’s eldest child, who was assigned female at birth, shared that he identified as male. This time it was Prudential’s PRIDE business resource group that provided Pedoto with the guidance and community she craved.

Watch the video to learn more about Pedoto’s story of accepting change and about finding — and leaning on — your people.
